Initial Design Ideas

As a group we decided to concentrate on the silhouette to begin with, looking at the nuns habit and how it sits on the body. We took from the research that our designs would be high necked, long and covered up. So that they didn't just end up looking like nuns habits, we decided that the fabric choice would actually be key to the collection, by using a sheer fabric we made something that is modest and covered up, turn something completely different.

Even though we wanted to create a collection based around the theme of Italian women and nuns, we still wanted to keep the recognizable Prada look. Their clothes are often thought of as outdated, but Muiccia Prada manages to bring it back to the 21st century through her fabric choices or prints, which is what we intend to do with the sheer fabrics.

I think this was the stage when I realised that our group had different ideas on interpreting the theme. Whereas as I took a very subtle approach other members of my team wanted to be more literal with the nun theme. I really struggled with this because as I wasn't the team designer I wasn't able to make the final decision as to what garments we include in the collection
