Prada

Out of the different brands shown to us I decided to pick Prada. I was torn between this choice and that of Burberry. One of the reasons why I didn't go for Burberry was because there are a lot more limitations to this brand. Because they are so well known for their outer garments they tend to stick to that, especially within the season we are looking. The reason for picking Prada was because I love the branding and how they almost do whatever they want within there fashion, this can be noticed when they feature sandals and shorts in an autumn/winter collection. I understand that that sort of freedom only comes when having an established brand that has been successful and respected in the world of fashion for decades and its that braveness to do whatever they want that grabs my attention so much.
I intend to take this project very seriously as it could put me in good stead if I ever wish to do any work experience or job placements with the company that might actually go towards my degree. By showing them that I have a genuine interest in the company, and that I have made my own interpretation as to how I see their brand, it will make me stand out from other applicants wanting the same place.

I believe the quote, “all that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned and at last man is forced to face with sober sense, his real conditions of life and his relations with his kind" actually fits in rather well with the brand. From doing research we found that the quote was written by Karl Marx and is featured in the communist manifesto. This links in with the brand because Muccia Prada actually joined the communist party in the 70's so that she could express her opinions on women’s rights. Again there is a link between her feminism and the quote as I read it to be quite anti-men.

The other part of the text we wanted to focus on was "all that is holy is profaned", looking at important women in religion, and how we can relate it to our project, then twisting it in a way that portrays it in a bad way.

Another quote that I found that we wanted to introduce into our projects was this one from the corporate responsibility section of their website.

"The Prada Group has built its history by drawing inspiration from beauty, which is translated into products universally recognized as unique in style and excellent for their quality. We have always tended to take inspiration from the regions where we were born and where we operate."

From reading this quote we wanted incorporate the history of the brand, so looking at Italian religion and the history of it and also traditional Italian women and how important their role is in the family. I personally believe that the mother figure in Italy commands a lot more respect than in English society and I want to include this into my research and outcomes.
